Spring is here and many of us are in the process of revamping our spaces. Is your warehouse feeling cramped, overstocked, and poorly organized, or are you designing your next warehouse space? Whether you’re spring cleaning or looking to build from the ground up, here at Voss Equipment, we’ve got the technical and design expertise to help you make the most of your warehouse space–all while improving your operation’s safety and efficiency.
In this edition of the Voss Equipment blog, let’s take a look at our top 5 tips for maximizing your warehouse space, helping you to discover square footage you didn’t know you had.
#1 Choose the Right Storage System
When optimizing or designing your high-efficiency warehouse space, you want to make sure you have the right storage system for your space. Increase your storage density by considering different types of shelving and racking.
A few options to consider include:
- Pallet racks
- Bulk rack shelving
- Storage room shelving
- Options for off-site storage sites for overstock
Our experts can help you design and install a shelving or pallet racking system that works for you. We’ll dive more into our pallet racking systems below!
#2 Utilize Vertical Space
Use vertical storage space, which is especially important when you want to make the most of your square footage. Instead of bulky on-the-floor storage options that cramp your aisles, think upward. Check building codes, and determine your warehouse clear height.
Pallet rack storage is a very efficient way to maximize your warehouse space. Voss Equipment specialists can work with you to create CAD drawings with complete pallet rack and storage design to help you store upwards, freeing up aisle space for greater safety and maneuverability within your warehouse space.
When planning what to store up high, you may want to store lesser-used products higher up. While some may choose to store overflow and overstock in a separate storage facility, a more cost-effective solution is to invest in on-site racking and storage that utilize your vertical space. With the correct design and engineering, operators will be amazed by just how much square footage they can free up.
#3 Choose the Right Type of Pallet Racks
As you’re planning your vertical storage options, both in terms of shelves and pallet racking, you’ll want to research your options to make sure your new storage system meets your needs and applications. Pallet racks take full advantage of your vertical space.
At Voss Equipment, we offer a very wide variety of pallet racking options. We’ll take a deep dive into these options in our next edition of the Voss Equipment blog, but will provide an overview of a few of our most popular types of pallet racking systems below:
-
- Selective pallet racking: One of our most popular pallet racking systems, this is a great option for high-SKU operations with quick product turnaround.
- Double deep racking: Looking to maximize your storage density? With a pallet racking system that’s two pallets deep, double-deep racking allows you to store more product than selective pallet racking.
- Cantilever racks: This type of racking is perfect for storing bulkier, longer items and materials.
- Drive-in pallet racks: One of the most super-efficient racking systems, you can stack pallets almost infinitely deep, and is great for industries with non-perishable products that will be stored for more extended periods.
These are just a few of our pallet racking systems, so stay tuned for our next blog for a more in-depth look into all of the systems, and be sure to browse our site for a full list. Our experts will help you pick the right racking setup to maximize your efficiency, so please reach out to us so we can help you design your next warehouse or warehouse optimization project.
#4 Use a Warehouse Mezzanine
If your warehouse is feeling cramped, a mezzanine floor is a perfect solution, allowing you to nearly double your existing workspace. Voss Equipment specialists can help you design your mezzanine along with your mezzanine stairs. We offer free-standing, pallet rack, and pick module mezzanines, and are happy to consult with you about which type is best for your application.
#5 Use Containers that Fit the Store Items
One way to maximize your storage space is to make sure you’re using storage containers that fit what you’re storing. All too often, we see warehouse spaces using oversized storage containers. Finding well-structured storage containers that fit the products inside will free up extra space you didn’t know you had. We offer a huge selection of containers, so be sure to browse our catalog to help streamline your warehouse design.
